SkySisters written by Jan Bourdeau Waboose, illus. by Brian Deines Two sisters go out on a snowy night to see the SkySpirits, the Northern Lights. They suck glistening icicles while walking through balsam, they meet a rabbit and a white-tailed deer, they hear coyote's call, and howl in return, they spin together atop a hill until they fall down dizzy in the snow, and finally the Spirits come. Waboose's words illuminate the younger sister to older sister relationship with gentle humor and much affection, while Deines' paintings highlight the sweet faces of the girls, and the purples and blues of a northern winter night. Together, they have created a work that honors the mystery in the sky that is the Aurora Borealis, and the magic of love that grows within good family. |
